PMS: Premenstrual Syndrome and PMDD : Premenstrual Dysphoric Disorder
Premenstrual syndrome, also known as PMS, is extremely common and describes the mental and physical symptoms that occur in the one to two weeks before a woman's period. Women may experience low mood, anxiety, irritability, breast tenderness, bloating, acne, fatigue, low libido and migraines which usually suggest a hormone imbalance.
Premenstrual Dysphoric Disorder, known as PMDD, is a much more severe form of PMS, with a tendency to have significant mood changes in the one to two weeks before a woman's period. Women often struggle to function normally during the second half of their cycle and may experience disturbing thoughts and extremely volatile emotions including feelings of sadness or despair, suicidal thoughts, panic attacks, feeling out of control, trouble sleeping, trouble thinking or focusing, sustained anger or irritability and frequent crying.
The most common hormone imbalance seen in PMS and PMDD is Progesterone deficiency in the second half of the cycle. Progesterone is a naturally calming hormone and when levels are insufficient to balance oestrogen, symptoms such as anxiety, irritability, bloating and mood swings can occur. Supporting levels of this hormone naturally or with bioidentical hormone therapy is often beneficial.
Our team of women's health practitioners and functional medicine doctors can help you to assess for any hormone imbalance using tailored functional medicine testing and hormone tracking. We will address the root cause of hormone imbalance and can offer bespoke hormone therapy to reduce symptoms and support you to gain control over your hormones and life.

Modern day living does not allow for much down time. Many of us run around in a state of fight or flight, with phones and emails chasing our heels. Fatigue or burnout is common, and is usually a warning sign that we need to slow down.
Our bodies are complex, and like a finely tuned motor, can go wrong at any point. Unfortunately, conventional medicine rarely allows enough time to explore the many reasons someone might be experiencing fatigue. Functional Medicine, on the other hand, uses an extensive personal history to look at a patient’s patterns over his or her entire lifetime and connect the dots.
Factors such as lifestyle, sleep, diet, exercise, stress, mitochondrial function, gut health, chronic infections, environmental toxins, hormones, and more can influence energy levels. As Hormone specialists we understand the interconnected web that involves sex, adrenal and thyroid hormones, the gut- brain axis and the gut- adrenal axis as well as the powerful mind-body connection.
Our team of functional medicine practitioners offer holistic health assessments, personalised testing (including gut, hormone tracking, bespoke blood tests) and tailored treatment plans. We aim to achieve optimal health, wellbeing and energy through supporting sleep, gut health, hormones, mitochondria and adrenal function, whilst addressing any dysfunction.

Thyroid Dysfunction
Symptoms such as tiredness, weight gain, irregular or heavy periods can all be associated with Thyroid dysfunction . Unfortunately conventional Thyroid testing is now very limited yet the thyroid is intricately linked with our sex and stress hormones.
As GPs and hormone specialists we offer comprehensive thyroid testing (including T4, T3, antibody testing and reverse T3) as well as functional medicine testing to assess the root cause of thyroid dysfunction.
Our team of functional medicine doctors, qualified nutritionists and health coach can support you to optimise and preserve Thyroid function naturally, via nutrition and lifestyle, as well as offering thyroid hormone treatment where necessary.

Over 2 million people in the UK are affected by this disabling condition. We know that Long Covid is a multi-systems disease that commonly affects the mitochondria, gut, endocrine system including sex hormones and adrenal hormones, autonomic nervous system, lungs, heart and small nerve fibres. For many people, lives have been changed beyond recognition. Previously healthy and fit individuals have been floored by this virus and many have struggled to find effective help and support.
Long Covid has taught us a lot about Chronic Fatigue Syndrome/ CFS/ ME which historically has been poorly understood.
Common symptoms include post viral fatigue, breathlessness, chest pain, headaches, exercise intolerance, neurological issues and brain fog. There are many hypotheses as to contributing factors including mast cell activation/ histamine intolerance, dysregulation of the autonomic nervous system, inflammation of specific organs, micro – clots and poor perfusion of the blood capillaries, mitochondrial dysfunction and HPA axis dysfunction.
Functional Medicine Doctor and Hormone specialist Dr Tanya has first hand experience of recovering from Long Covid and has a deep understanding of the factors at play.
Our approach.

“I highly recommend Dr Liz. I first saw her when I was at a very low point following a recent operation, and trying to navigate myself through perimenopause with ongoing adenomyosis and endometriosis symptoms. Dr Liz listened to what was going on for me and we worked together to create a plan that has helped me greatly. Dr Liz is extremely knowledgeable about hormone health and I am very happy I found her!
